FAQ’s

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does “sold by hanging weight” mean?

Hanging weight is the weight of the animal after slaughter but before cutting and packaging. It includes bones and fat that may be trimmed off later. It’s the fairest and most accurate way to price bulk beef.

2. How much meat will I actually take home?

On average, you’ll receive about 55% of the hanging weight as packaged beef. For example, a 600 lb hanging weight will yield roughly 330 lbs of take-home meat.

3. What cuts do I get with a whole, half, or quarter cow?

You’ll be able to choose your cuts — just like ordering from a live butcher counter. We’ll walk you through your options when it’s time to finalize your processing sheet.

4. How long does it take to get my beef?

Typically 10–14 days from the slaughter date, depending on dry aging and butcher schedule.

5. Is your beef grass fed?

Yes — our cattle are grass-fed and grain-finished for premium flavor and marbling.

We encourage all customers, both current and future, to visit the farm and see the process — so you truly know where your beef comes from. You can set up a farm tour through the contact page.

6. Do you deliver or ship?

Yes — pickup at the farm is always available.

We also offer local delivery and nationwide shipping.

Shipping rates are calculated at checkout.

7. Can I split with a friend or family member?

Absolutely — just let us know how you want it divided when we finalize your cuts.

8. Can I build my own beef box?

We do not offer custom build-your-own boxes at this time, but if you send us a message at the time of your order, we may be able to accommodate special requests depending on inventory.

9. Do you offer custom milling?

We currently do not offer custom milling unless it’s a large job. Our hourly rate is $75/hour with a 250 board foot/hour average capacity.

10. What types of lumber do you offer?

We sell green-cut pine, poplar, red oak, white oak, chestnut oak, and ambrosia maple. You can view current inventory and pricing on our website under the “Sawmill” collection.
